99% of the benefits of university is simply putting smart people in the same space. Human beings need each other. If you take away all the professors, the textbooks, the computers, and you just put smart people in the same space, good things happen. The key is seducing smart people to take the risk of putting themselves in a new environment.

In the 1960s, the foundations of modern academia were retooled and rebuilt. Whether you think that was liberating or horrifying, it can be done. It just requires faith and talent. Everything good requires sacrifice.

In 2021, I drove around the country to 47 states and met 50 people from the internet. From this I made dozens of individual friends, but I also put together a solid collective of 7 people who meet digitally every week, and we've been doing that now for 80 weeks straight. It's an incredibly rewarding experience, but there's so much more that could be done.

Substack is an incredible platform. It has changed my life -- and I haven't even met anyone in real life from here yet, but I hope to someday. "Futurist Hogwarts" is a beautiful phrase. If you build it, they will come!
